Photon Systems On The Way To Mars

The Mars 2020 mission with the Perseverance Rover launched on July 30, 2020 and will land on Mars February 18, 2021.  The Perseverance Rover, with the SHERLOC instrument is headed to Jezzero crater in 2020 to search for signatures of life. It is a highly advanced deep UV fluorescence and Raman spectrometer that can withstand the Mars environment and capable of generating chemical and organic maps within a mineral matrix with a mapping field of view of ~1 cm2 . At the heart of SHERLOC is a compact, narrow-linewidth, deep UV laser, developed by Photon Systems and tested to TRL-9.
